I just wanted to give you an update on what's been going on at Castel Del Mare since you assisted me in finding this manager position in June 2005. I am really enjoying it here, thank you for finding the "right fit."
I have computerized the office duties and we are doing all of the accounting functions in house, which the board of directors is very pleased about. (There were four part time people doing it previously.) Their reports are available on a timely basis and I have been able to answer any questions they may have.
In June, I applied for a Neighborhood Grant that is sponsored by the Sarasota County Commission. Associations and ad hoc groups are eligible for 50 percent of the cost of a project up to $12,000 for each six month cycle. For every dollar the county contributes, the neighborhood must contribute a like amount. This may be in cash or as donated services by a local business or by resident volunteers credited at $12 per hour.
Our grant was approved to enhance the frontage of our community. The landscaping had not been updated since development in 1975 and included approximately 420 feet along the main highway. The project enhanced the beauty of our neighborhood and safety for our community.
Our residents volunteered over 190 hours attending meetings, planting, painting and watering. Most of all, our residents and neighbors have a renewed sense of camaraderie in our community and are very pleased with the outcome.
I would like to encourage all managers to check the your county commissioners to see if there are similar funds available in the area and go for it. The paperwork may be discouraging at first, but it is will worth it to improve the community for half the cost.
